City begins work on new animal shelter

The Fredericktown Board of Aldermen approved the construction of the city’s new animal shelter at their last meeting.

City Administrator Jim Dismuke said the account for the animal shelter had about $4,000 in it, which was enough to begin construction. The cost is expected to be about $7,000. Although some funds had been budgeted several years ago, the shelter’s construction had been put on hold due to budget demands. Only the cement foundation had been poured.

City workers and volunteers got the walls up this week. The shelter is located on Chamber drive next to the recycling center. More volunteers and donations are needed to complete the project.
