Fredericktown honored by athlete’s performances

FREDERICKTOWN — Courtney Kemp, a 2008 graduate and academic athlete of Fredericktown, is still making her mark on the basketball court. Playing for the Missouri S&T University women’s basketball team in Rolla, Kemp, a junior, has been averaging eight points and three rebounds per game for the 17-5 Lady Miners.

Her latest heroics included crucial three-pointers in the overtime periods of the Lady Miners last two games against Southern Kentucky and Bellarmine.

This year, several teams have received special academic honors and carried on the tradition of academic excellence for Fredericktown High School.

The Football Cheer Squad had a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.7 for the first semester, qualifying them for the highest scholastic honor from the Missouri State High School Athletic Association.

In addition this year’s football team of 46 students, grades 10-12, for the first semester had a GPA of 3.38, which also qualifies them for the same award.

The Varsity Volleyball team also qualified with an outstanding GPA of 3.94, and the JV Volleyball team had a GPA of 3.61.
