Area to host Women’s Championship bowling

More than 2,000 competitive bowlers are signed up for annual prize tournament

There will be more than 2,000 female bowlers coming to the county this spring for the Missouri State USBC Association’s Fifth Annual Women’s Championship Tournament.

Tom Bromley, president of the Mineral Area Bowling Association, said the tournament will be held at the Bonne Terre and Farmington Family Fun Centers March 5 through April 17.

“There will probably be over 2,000 women from all over the state (coming here) to bowl,” he said. “There’s already that many signed up.

The tournament is an annual prize tournament. Last year, the tournament was held in Jackson.

“We were fortunate enough to get it,” Bromley said. “It will be good for the community. It will bring people to motels (and restaurants).”

There are five division categories and bowlers can compete in team, doubles or singles events. The team events will be held at Bonne Terre while doubles and singles will be held in Farmington. Events will be held on Saturdays and Sundays.

“Anyone who wants to watch is more than welcome,” he said.

Volunteers are also needed to help with the tournament. Anyone who would like to help can contact Bromley at 573-756-0491. For more information visit www.mousbc.org and click on state tournaments.
