Hunters match school record with 21st victory

STE. GENEVIEVE — A dazzling performance from junior forward Abby Meyer helped the Ste. Genevieve girls basketball team clinch second place overall in the MAAA Large-School standings on Friday night.

Meyer scored 13 of her career-high 28 points during the first quarter, and knocked down five 3-pointers overall in a 55-50 triumph as Ste. Genevieve downed Potosi for the third time this season.

Peyton Herrell totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Hunters (21-4), who matched a program record for wins in a single season while notching their fourth victory in as many days.

Potosi (16-9) claimed a 32-31 halftime lead after its strong start. Strong defense on both ends sent a 37-37 tie into the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Fitzwater paced the Lady Trojans with 13 points while Geena Davis scored 12 and Ashley Thompson had 10.
