‘First Timers’
We have a father-daughter tradition in our house that includes watching the Daytona 500 together.
We make the trip to St. Louis every year, and get to enjoy the thrill of the race on a home theater screen with one of our girls, her husband, and lots and lots of ‘goodies’ for snacking. Besides the sounds making it feel like you are actually there on the track, the views are incredible. We don’t have to pay for a trip to Florida, the huge ticket prices, parking, refreshments, souvenirs; we just get to sit back, relax, snack all we want, and enjoy the afternoon! I don’t know how many of you watched the race this last weekend, but to me, it was a thriller. To see a first time driver at the Daytona race, who had just turned twenty the day before, even make it to the top ten was amazing. But to win; now there was a once in a lifetime event. Bless his heart, he was so excited, he didn’t even know where to take his car for the winners circle! What a memory to cherish forever. Trevor Bayne is a name that no NASCAR driver will forget in the near future, I’m sure.
Have you had any ‘firsts’ that are memorable to you? Maybe the first time you rode your bicycle without training wheels. What about the first time you were allowed to drive the car by yourself? Maybe a trip you took without your parents. Your first date; your first job; your first circus, or concert, or ballgame. All of us have something that has been a big ‘first timer’ that we will always remember. Some may be bigger or more noticeable than others, but we have all experienced our own times of excitement and achievement, and those are moments we will cherish as long as we live.
