Ben Everett Whitener
Ben Whitener, 68, of Festus, Missouri, died March 2, 2011 at his residence.
He was born January 14, 1943 in Zion, Missouri, the son of the late Alma (nee Hale) and Everette Whitener.
Mr. Whitener is survived by his wife Rhoda “Kay” (nee Saling) Whitener of Festus; one son, Chris Whitener of Festus; one daughter, Libby Campbell of Simpsonville, South Carolina; two sisters, Phyllis Fencl of Fredericktown, Missouri and Janet Freeman of Monet, Missouri. He is also survived by six grandchildren.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Festus where he served as Treasurer for over thirty years. He taught English and French at the Festus High School for 37 years. He was a member of MSTA, the Festus Board of Adjustments, the Festus Public Library Board and Foundation Board, Trustee and Board Member for the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, a Jefferson County Election Judge, Past President of MSTA-CTA, and was the Emerson Electric Excellence in Teaching Award Recipient in 1998.
Services were held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Faith Baptist Church in Festus; officiated by Brother John Weaver and Brother Mike Goodwin. Burial was at Whitener-Barber Cemetery in Zion, Missouri.
