Girl Scouts GO GREEN

Fredericktown Girl Scouts are planning a huge Recycling and Donation Drop Off Site during National Girl Scout Week this March.

Saturday, March 12 from 10 am – 3 pm, Girl Scouts will have several drop off booths set up at the Fredericktown Walmart parking lot (at the end nearest the gas station). The girls will be accepting items that may not be your typical recyclable, but need to be. This is our communities chance to help the environment and others in the area. Start saving items now to donate.

Acceptable recycle items are:

*Cell phones and small electronics (game systems, cameras, mp3 players and pagers)

*Ink and toner cartridges

*Crayons (broken bits and pieces are fine and leave wrappers on)

*Batteries (dry cell household like AAA, AA, C and D – no car batteries)

*Eye Glasses and Hearing Aids

*Athletic Shoes (rubber sole only – NO spikes or dress shoes)

We have found some very interesting ways to keep these items out of landfills. Some of the electronics are refurbished and given to women’s shelters and soldiers. The ones that are not usable are properly disposed of. Eye glasses and hearing aids are also refurbished for low income folks in need of them. Crayons are recycled into new crayons. Athletic shoes that are still usable are given to homeless shelters, and those that are beyond their prime are sent to be recycled into running tracks made from the shredded rubber.

We are also accepting donations of new and gently used (no junk please) items to stay here in our own community.

Acceptable donation items are:

Baby items (clothes, diapers, blankets etc)

Pet Supplies (food, dishes, collars and old household blankets to be used for beds)

Books, children and other (need to be usable, not missing pages etc)

We hope you start your Spring cleaning now and dig out the items you have been setting aside for lack of a better place to put them. Bring them to the Girl Scout GO Green Recycle and Donation Drop off site. Lets reduce, reuse and recycle together to keep as much as we can out of landfills.
