Resource center extends hours

Beginning this week, the American Cancer Society’s Patient Education Resource Center, located inside USA Drug Store, will extend its hours to better serve St. Francois County patients. The Center’s new hours are every Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If a patient is unable to stop by during the Center’s newly extended hours, he/she may still contact the Society directly 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1.800.227.2345 or online at cancer.org for assistance.

The Center offers area cancer patients access, at no cost to them, cancer information, wigs, hats, turbans, breast prostheses, and mastectomy bras. The Center’s trained volunteer staff can also assist patients and their families, by helping to identify additional resources to ease the day-to-day cancer burden.

“We are proud to extend our hours for the patient education resource center in St. Francois County,” said Laura Ozenkoski, health initiatives director for the American Cancer Society’s High Plains Division. “It is with special thanks to our local volunteers, that we are able to continue moving torward the Society’s vision of creating a world with less cancer, and more birthdays.”

Each Patient Education Resource Center volunteer is carefully chosen and trained by the American Cancer Society. The Society hopes to recruit and train additional volunteers to staff the center.
