Police arrest 21 at recent sobriety checkpoint

Twenty-one arrests were made and 121 warnings were issued during a Missouri State Highway Patrol sobriety checkpoint in St. Francois County Friday night.

The operation took five hours. A total of 344 vehicles were checked.

Of those, 10 summonses were written for other moving and non-moving violations, including seat belt and child restraint violations, and one summons was written for a speed violation. One summons was written for a driver license violation and five for insurance violations.

In addition, two drivers were arrested for DWI, and two additional felony arrests on one person for resisting arrest and assault on a law enforcement officer.

“This was another successful checkpoint, and we would like to thank every person involved, especially members of the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department,” said Captain Ronald S. Johnson, commanding officer of Troop C, Weldon Spring.
