Lady Cardinals take two from Forest Park

ST. LOUIS — A six-hit shutout by sophomore pitcher Alex Perry set the tone for another double-header sweep, as the Mineral Area College softball team remained unbeaten in Region XVI play on Thursday afternoon.

Kelly Kelm and Beth Winckel each went 2-for-2 in the opener while Jamie Bullock notched three RBI on two hits, and the Lady Cardinals followed their 8-0 triumph by rallying past Forest Park 13-8 in game two.

Allyson Luce tallied two RBI while matching Perry and Tori Henson with two singles apiece, and Hannah Hicks added a RBI single in game one. Perry struck out three over five innings to secure her 11th win of the season.

Winckel highlighted a 13-hit Mineral Area attack in the second contest, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Tory Smith drove home four runs on a double and single.

Callie Dennis, Emily Hanquist and Henson scored two runs each, and Bullock stroked a two-run double for the Lady Cardinals, who improved to 12-0 with six games remaining on the region schedule.

Perry singled twice and allowed one unearned run in the circle after Tristan Branch relieved starter Jennifer Hackworth with two outs in the fourth inning.

Hicks chipped in a RBI double and Addie Scoggin singled in her lone plate appearance. Mineral Area (21-11) will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this weekend to compete in the Kirkwood Classic.
