Walk/Run for Walker scheduled for this Saturday

Members of the Farmington community continue to join together to help the Johns family.  A group is organizing a run/walk for Walker Johns on Saturday at the Farmington High School. Sponsorship levels are available for those interested.

Johns, a Farmington R-7 student, began chemotherapy July 30, 2010. According to a family member and information available on the Facebook page, Walker’s mom, Kelly, noticed he was pale and didn’t want to go outside with his dad. She wanted to be on the safe side and took him in for a check up. Walker was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL.

ALL is reportedly one of the least troublesome forms of leukemia but the doctors must still treat it aggressively.

Johns received a bone marrow transplant on March 17. Students at Farmington Middle School remembered Johns and all those who were going through similar transplants that day with a moment of silence before school and wore green ribbons that day.

Pre-registration for Saturday’s fundraising walk begins at 8 a.m., and the run/walk begins at 9 a.m. A one mile walk is $15, 5k adult  is $25, 5k child (12 and under) is $15, 10k adult is $25 and 10k child (12 and under) is $15.

Commemorative t-shirts will be guaranteed only with pre-registration.
