Farmers’ Market Is a Growing Business!

Regular customers have waited months and it’s finally here.  Saturday Farmers’ Market is opening its fifth season Saturday, May 7, at Madison County Farm Supply.

There will be the usual fresh-baked apple pies, cinnamon rolls, cakes, and chocolate chip cookies.  Some of the vendors may have lettuce, spinach, onions, and more-if they got the crop in before the rains hit.  The Market this year will also feature several unique items.

Vendors will be selling stepping stones, specialty soaps, bedding plants, grape vines, perennials, crafts, quilts and more.

Some of the vendors attended the kick-off meeting Wednesday, April 20. Everyone seemed excited to start a new season and ideas flowed.  There will be some special activities planned for the season that runs from May 7 until the end of the vendors’ crops, possibly the first weekend of November.

A children’s planting day will be held sometime in May.  Watch for signs advertising the date at the Farm Supply.

A Facebook page will be created to inform local buyers of the availability of produce for the weekend.  Hopefully, we can keep it up-dated as the produce becomes available so customers can get that first red ripe tomato before they are sold out.  Want a particular item?  The vendors will be more than willing to try to meet the needs of our customers.

The Market is also a source of information.  Vendors like to visit and in that visiting we learn lots of great growing tips.   Every spring before the Market opens, vendors are usually dipping out seeds and planting tips at Madison County Farm Supply.  This is just one service the vendors provide.  And we all learn from it.

Saturday Farmers’ Market will be at Madison County Farm Supply every Saturday until it’s too cold to grow! Some vendors will set up every week; others will set up when they have the crops.

If you would like to set up at the Saturday Farmers’ Market, check with Donna at the store or call her at  783-5526 or Connie at 783-6307.
