Man accused of cashing deceased wife’s check

PARK HILLS – A Park Hills man is facing charges because police say he cashed his deceased wife’s Social Security check.

Billy Ray Douglas, 31, of Park Hills, has been charged with forgery. Bond was set at $10,000.

According to court records, Country Mart contacted police to report that on Feb. 11, Douglas had cashed a $754 Social Security check issued to his wife, Michelle who died Nov. 18.

Country Mart was then notified that the check was forged.

Douglas said he cashed the check and made a deal with the government to pay it back. He then said a woman forged the signature of Michelle Douglas on the check, cashed it and kept the money to herself. The woman admitted she was with Douglas when the check was cashed.
