Hunters run the bases on Lady Crusaders

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Hunters took advantage of the Saxony Lutheran Lady Crusaders defense as they stole eight bases, advanced on two passed balls and reached base on five Saxony Lutheran errors to result in a 12-2 win for their season opener.

The Hunters did not really need the visitors help as they totaled nine hits in the game while pitcher Megan Weiler limited the Lady Crusaders to only two. Weiler struck out six batters in the six inning game, while only walking one batter and hitting one.

Erica Burney drove in five runs, going 2-3 with two two-RBI doubles and a sac fly. Emily Geisler was 2-3, reaching base all four times she came up to bat, and scoring four runs while stealing three bases. Jamie Viox was 2-4 with pair of stolen bases. Brittney Gotshall hit a double, and Paige Porter and Kayla Dickens both singled in the game.

Ste. Genevieve will be back at home today to host Potosi for their conference opener
