Lady Rebels avoid upset bid to stay undefeated
PARK HILLS — The Central Lady Rebels softball team scored their 14th win of the year without a loss on Thursday with a 7-5 win over the Ste. Genevieve Hunters. The Hunters scored two runs in the sixth, but Central pitcher Taylor Friend pitched her way out of the jam, leaving two on base and finishing out the seventh without anymore harm being done.
Both pitchers kept the ball in the strike zone as Friend struck out eight batters for Central, and Megan Weiler struck out seven for Ste. Genevieve.
Ashley Hovis came up with a pair of two-RBI hits to lead the Lady Rebels in hitting. Hovis was 3-4 in the game, contributing to both the Lady Rebels four-run second innings and their two-run fourth.
Alex Huff was 2-3 at the plate for Central, and Hanna Stamm, Georgia Richardson, Morgan Reece and Friend had one hit each in the game.
Britney Gotshall hit a solo home run in the second inning to instigate Ste. Genevieve’s scoring. Emily Gieser was 2-3 and was hit by a pitch. Jamie Viox, Tori Yates, Allison Layton and Weiler all had one hit each for Ste. Genevieve.
The Hunters will play St. Clair on Saturday in the unfinished Potosi Tournament with the winner playing for the championship against Salem.
