Valle makes five-game sweep of St. Charles Tourney

ST. CHARLES — The Valle Lady Warriors faced a strong challenge  from Ft. Zumwalt South in their opening match of pool play, but they managed a pair of two-point victories which allowed them to march through the tournament winning five straight to finally defeat Parkway Central in the championship match. The Lady Warriors did not lose one game in the process.

Natalie Grass and Gretchen Koller made six kills each to help Valle win 25-23, 26-24 over Ft. Zumwalt South. Katie Bader served 10 points with four going for aces in Valle’s second match against Hazelwood West. Koller again made six kills as the Lady Warriors won the match 25-20, 25-22.

In their final pool-play match, the Lady Warriors service game dominated McCluer North for a 25-12, 25-10 win as Katie Bader served 13 points with six aces, and Kylie Meyer served another 10 with four aces. Grass and Koller combined for eight kills.

Finishing first in their pool, in the semi-finals the Lady Warriors faced Christian High School, the second-place team from the other pool which Valle won quite handily 25-9, 25-14. Whitley Bieser had plenty of help on her serve as Katlin Abt, Meyer and Grass all had five kills each, and Bieser managed to serve 16 of Valle’s points with six aces.

The Lady Warriors squared off against Parkway Central for the tournament championship and Valle’s net game was kicked into high gear as they won in two again, 25-17, 27-25. Koller led the attack with 10 kills, Kamrie Meyer made six and Grass had five. Ali Gegg was the leader at the service line with 12 points served.

Grass led Valle in digs with 29 over the five games. Whitley Bieser and Herzog had 22 each. Herzog and Bieser combined for 65 assists.

Valle (8-2) will play next at West County on Tuesday.
