Surging Potosi springs upset over Farmington

POTOSI — Houston Nicholson and pitcher Megan Osbahr were each perfect in four plate appearances, and the suddenly streaking Potosi softball team earned perhaps its most prominent win of the season on Monday.

Nicholson singled four times while Osbahr had a triple and double in a 3-for-3 showing, and the Lady Trojans stunned visiting Farmington 9-6 after scoring the game’s first eight runs.

Potosi (6-11) netted four runs in the second inning and doubled that lead in the third, notching its third straight victory after starting the season 0-6.

Megan Vandergriff was 3-for-4 and Mariah Glore singled twice as the Lady Trojans collected 16 hits overall. Osbahr recorded four strikeouts and allowed four earned runs on 10 hits.

Rachel Porter finished 4-for-4 with a triple and double to pace Farmington. Sonya Hahn added two singles and Kim Ferris tripled, while pitcher Kaila Nash fanned four in the loss.

The Knightettes (11-9) landed the No. 2 seed for the MAAA Tournament, which starts today in Farmington, and will meet either third-seeded Ste. Genevieve or Fredericktown at 6 p.m.

Potosi will play North County at 4:30 in the first round. Central clinched the top seed by going 10-0 in league play.
