Lady Raiders win conference crown

FARMINGTON — The North County Lady Raiders clinched the  MAAA Conference championship in tennis on Tuesday, completing their conference schedule at 7-1, one game ahead of Fredericktown, their only loss.

The Lady Raiders took care of business on their end with an 8-1 win over Farmington, but they needed help and got it from the Potosi Lady Trojans who defeated Fredericktown 6-3 at the same time.

The Lady Raiders won all of their singles matches with Shelby Mund defeating Morgan Smith at No. 1, 8-4. Miranda Maeys won 8-2 over Danielle Hankins. Alex Perry beat Sydney Rodgers 8-3 in No. 3 singles, and Amber Poindexter shut-out Jennifer Henson 8-0. Molly McBride as an 8-4 winner over Jessica Deason, and Taylor Weible won the No. 6 match 8-2 over Sunita Chand.

Farmington won its lone match in No. 1 doubles as Smith and Hankins upset Mund and Maeys. Perry and Weible shut out Rodgers and Leach and Poindexter and McBride were 8-3 winners over Deason and Chand.

North County will play next in the conference tournament on Thursday at Potosi. Farmington will travel to Arcadia Valley for their last conference meet.
