Dragons thump Perryville for Homecoming win
STE. GENEVIEVE — Brendan Weiler threw six touchdown passes in the first 14 minutes of action, including four straight to senior receiver Derek Brown, and the Ste. Genevieve football team pounded Perryville 72-6 on Friday night to celebrate Homecoming.
Adam Schwent added two scoring receptions of 22 and 32 yards before halftime, and the Dragons (6-1) stormed to a 53-0 lead at the intermission following a 66-yard run by Brendan Dallas.
Perryville (1-6) capped a 12-play drive with a 5-yard run by Devin Blanford in the third quarter, but Dallas returned the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for his second TD of the night.
Weiler was pulled after finishing 13-of-14 overall for 269 yards. Brown made six receptions for 155 yards as Ste. Genevieve improved to 4-0 atop the MAFC White Division standings.
Backup quarterback Matt Drury cashed in a fumble recovery by Jonny Williams with a 23-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, and Clayton Naeger’s 32-yard interception return posted the final points.
Gabe Meyer added a 15-yard touchdown scamper for the Dragons, who will host Lutheran South next week to begin district play.
