Lady Bulldogs claim tourney title

LEADWOOD — The host squad prevailed in two separate matches by the minimum 2-point margin, and captured the championship of the West County volleyball tournament on Saturday afternoon.

Courtney Richards served 19 points and Miranda Lashley compiled 14 for West County in a 20-25, 25-22, 18-16 title win over Steelville.

Lauren Callahan totaled seven kills with nine points, and Paige Forshee made a team-high six digs while matching McKayla Ketcherside and Lashley with four kills each. Setter Brittany Eggers had eight assists.

The Lady Bulldogs narrowly topped Kingston 22-25, 25-20, 16-14 in pool play to reach the tournament final. Callahan again led the attack with six kills while Lashley and Ketcherside made two blocks apiece.

Carissa Brewer notched eight assists and shared the West County team lead with Forshee by serving 10 points.

Eggers recorded the first 13 points against Marquand in an opening 25-7, 25-13 pool victory. Callahan recorded four kills while Forshee served eight points and Sidney Wells added seven.

Kingston defeated Bunker and lost to Bourbon in pool play.
