Leadwood Board of Aldermen unanimously chose to make Dennis Parks interim mayor on Tuesday during a special meeting.
Parks, who was serving as mayor pro tem, will fill the position until April elections. The opening was left after John Hartley resigned.
Alderman John Vickers nominated Parks. His motion was seconded by Alderman Anna Woods.
The decision leaves an opening in Parks’ Ward 1 seat.
“We will appoint a new person at the (Nov. 28) meeting,” Parks said. “The board is talking to interested individuals. With their advice and approval, I will make the appointment.”
Parks said that a priority is finding out the status of the audit that recently was started.
“Without that audit, we can’t apply for grants,” he said. “We have a lot of things to get lined up, and we’ll have to back up on some things to make sure they’re done right.”
