Filing to open soon for school board
The Farmington R-7 School District will begin taking Declarations for Candidacy from any person meeting eligibility requirements and interested in running for open positions on the school board in the April 3, 2012 election.
Anyone interested may file starting Dec. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Board of Education building. Candidates who arrive before 8 a.m. should form a line at the front door of the building located at 1022 Ste. Genevieve Ave.
The filings will run through Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. Hours to file are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, the offices will be closed Dec. 22 through Jan. 2 and filings will resume on Jan. 3. Offices will also be closed during inclimate weather.
Those seeking a seat on the board must be a citizen of the United States and resident taxpayer of the Farmington R-7 School District. They must have lived in the state for one year preceding their election or appointment, and must be at least 24 years old.
Board members are required by law to successfully complete orientation and training requirements within one year of the date of the election or appointment.
The orientation and training consists of at least 16 hours with the cost of training to be paid by the district.
A board member is a “public servant” under the Missouri Criminal Code provisions regarding bribery, acceding to corruption, official misconduct and misuse of official information. A “taxpayer” is an individual who has paid taxes to the state or any subdivision thereof within the immediately preceding 12-month period, or the spouse of such individual.
There are two positions available for three year terms and candidates must meet the eligibility requirements.
