Lady Cats rule the boards to down South Iron
The Fredericktown Lady Cats pulled down more nearly more rebounds under their own basket as the South Iron Lady Panthers had on both ends,. The abundance of 18 offensive rebounds meant more opportunities to score, and the Lady Cats did just that for a 48-32 win in the Central Christmas Tournament consolation semi-final.
Brooke Tonjum pulled down 12 boards and Terra Helm collected 10 more of Fredericktown’s 43 rebounds with 18 coming on the offensive boards. South Iron had a total of 23 rebounds with only eight on their own end.
A pair of three-pointers by Helm, and a pair of putbacks by Tonjum set the tone for the first quarter as the Lady Cats jumped out to a 18-9 lead and the game was never in contention again.
Helm’s threes were the last for the Lady Cats, but she continued to contribute to their cause with a game-high 16 points. Tonjum finished with 13.
Bethany DeBoard scored her team’s only three-pointer to start the fourth quarter as she led the Lady Panthers with 15 points. DeAuna Prater was top-rebounder for South Iron with seven boards.
