Fourth-quarter pullaway earns Cougars first MAAA win
CADET — Holding a scant three-point edge going into the fourth quarter of their last conference game before the conference tournament, the Kingston Cougars improved their seeding chances with a 59-48 win over the Valley Vikings on Tuesday.
The win was their first in he MAAA Small-School Conference, leaving the winless Vikings all alone in the cellar.
The Cougars clawed their way back after a slow start to go up by two at the intermission. Kingston had only four players score in the game with Ross Politte paving the way with 29 points. Matt McCoy scored 16 to go along with 13 rebounds. Seth Kamper scored 11 and Alan Shawgo finished with three.
Lance Midgett led Valley with 22 points and Micah Casteel was next with 10. Darin Adams scored nine and Jesse McPherson had four.
Kingston (4-11) will be on the road Thursday to play Bunker. Valley (1-13) will host Lesterville on Thursday in a doubleheader with the Lady Vikings.
