Golf tournament scheduled

FARMINGTON – The second annual Just Beat It CUP Golf Tournament will be held June 21 at Crown Pointe Lodge in Farmington.

The four person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., with registration at noon in the 19th Hole. The entry fee per team is $200 or $50 per player. Teams need to be registered by June 7.

Organizers are looking for donations for silent auction and door prizes, hole sponsors and teams.

The golf tournament last year raised about $1,500. Organizers are hoping to make it bigger and better this year.

Proceeds from the golf tournament go to the 2012 St. Francois County Heart Walk. The annual heart walk raised more than $27,000 in 2011.

According to the American Heart Association website, the Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere event for raising funds to save lives from this country’s number one and number three killers – heart disease and stroke.

Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the entire family.

Heart disease is this country’s number one killer. But by exercising for as little as 30 minutes each day you can reduce your risk. That’s what the American Heart Association’s start walking movement is all about: Walk more. Eat better. Live a longer, healthier life.

According to the Journal of the American Heart Association, Women who walked two or more hours a week or who usually walked at a brisk pace (3 miles per hour or faster) had a significantly lower risk of stroke than women who didn’t walk, according to a large, long-term study reported in Stroke.

Registrations need to be completed by contacting Crown Pointe Golf Club or contacting the golf tournament organizers.
