Dragons escape with win as Indians miss last two shots

STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Dragons saw their efforts nearly erased as St. Vincent was able to not only get off a three-point try, but make the offensive board for a second try which also was off the mark before the horn sounded to declare the Dragons a 61-60 winner.

Ste. Genevieve trailed early but closed the gap to just four points at the half. Brendan Weiler nailed five three-point shots in the third quarter to help the Dragons gain the lead, and the two teams battled back and forth the entire fourth quarter before Ste. Genevieve made the last shot with 18 seconds left.

Weiler made seven threes in the game to bulk up a 28-point game. Jonathan Brewer scored 13, Matt Drury finished with eight and Clayton Gielow chipped in six.

Ste. Genevieve (9-15) will host Festus on Friday for their next game before next week’s districts.
