Candidates begin filing for Aug. 7 primary

Several candidates for county offices have filed for the Aug. 7, 2012 Primary Election.

Filing opened Tuesday, Feb. 28. March 27 is the last day a candidate can file for the August primary. In these races members of the same party will face each other for a spot on the November General Election ballot.

On the Republican ticket for Sheriff of Madison County are Lee Chambers and M. John Wright. Democrats competing for the position are Orval Wayne Robbs and Wendell Bellew.

Contenders for District 1 Commissioner on the Democratic ticket will be Sarah (Rauls) Kennedy and David Whitener. Tom Stephens will face Scott Minson for the Republican party’s nomination in the District I Commissioner race.

In the District 2 Commissioner race, David R. Lewis will face Danny L. Pruett in the Democratic primary and Wayne Spain will face James M. Thompson on the Republican side.

Democrat Barbara Martin is the only person running in either primary for Assessor at this time. Likewise, Democrat Douglas McFarland is the only candidate for Surveyor, Republican Carol LaChance is the only candidate running for Public Administrator, and Democrat Collin L. Follis is the only candidate running for Coroner at this time.

The Democrat News will update this listing, as new candidates file for the August primary.
