MAC Foundation golf tourney set

For nearly three decades, Mineral Area College Foundation, a 501(C)(3) corporation, has joined forces with the college community to support quality education and innovative programs to strengthen MAC’s students and community.

To support this mission, MAC Foundation will hold its annual fundraising golf tournament May 16 at Terre du Lac Golf Course in Bonne Terre. Due to growing interest, the tournament has expanded to include both a morning and afternoon flight, at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Team registration for the four-person scramble includes greens fees, cart rentals, complimentary beverages, prepaid showcase prize tickets, entry into a $1,000 raffle, souvenir visors and photos, as well as a post-tournament awards dinner and auction. If needed, the tournament rain date is May 23.

Foundation President Kevin Thurman says the popular tournament is a powerful tool to support higher education and enrich the region’s quality of life.

“Golfers and sponsors supply the funds to support important classroom upgrades and address training and workforce needs identified by the state including business, healthcare and law enforcement. Participating in the tournament is a remarkable way to make an impact, as profits will be quadrupled with the $3-for-$1 Enhancement Grant match from the state,” says Thurman. Last year’s tournament raised nearly $10,000, which translates into approximately $40,000 for equipment and technology upgrades for MAC. This golf tournament is the kick-off for the Foundation’s 2012-2013 Enhancement Grant Campaign.

Thurman invited everyone to sign up before the April 30 deadline.

“This warm spring weather has everyone longing to get outside and golf in the sunshine. Participants can meet other golfers and college supporters from throughout the Mineral Area, Southeast Missouri, and St. Louis areas who come back each year,” he said. “Golfers will also compete to win thousands of dollars in prizes and take pride in knowing their participation is making a wonderful difference for students and the community.”

Tournament registration and sponsorship packages are online at www.MineralArea.edu, and the tournament can be followed on Facebook by searching for Mineral Area College Foundation Golf Tournament. The deadline to register is April 30.

MAC Director of Development Julia Dill explained that a variety of sponsorship packages are also available.

“Hole sponsorships are available for $100 each. This is a great way to advertise your business and for alumni to financially support the college,” she said. “The planning committee has done an extraordinary job of generating valuable sponsorship opportunities to help local business and organizations build brand awareness with golfers. We are fortunate to exist in a community where businesses are passionate about strengthening our region. Sponsorship packages are a great way to give back, and in turn, build brand awareness among our many golfers.” Prize and auction items are also being accepted.
