Dry conditions keep firefighters busy

High winds and extreme dry conditions have caused a number of brush and woods fires over several acres of land in the Potosi Fire Protection District. The fire department has responded to 30 calls in the  six-day period from March 6 to March 11.

Mutual Aid was received on the brush fires from Leadwood, Richwoods, De Soto Rural, St. Clair, Bourbon, Belgrade, Irondale, Park Hills and Terre du Lac.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning urging landowners to be wary of burning as long as strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures persist.

The brush calls Potosi firefighters responded to were in addition to regular fire and EMS calls and mutual aid agreements. Since January, Potosi firefighters have responded to 182 calls.
