Construction on new care center begins

McGrath & Associates has begun construction on the $5 million Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital’s new Bloomsdale Women’s Health and Primary Care Center in Bloomsdale.

Archimages is the architect. A November 2012 opening is planned.

The two-story medical building will be a regional center for women’s health, housing the Metis Breast Center and an extensive array of women’s health services and community health programs. The family practice clinic of Donald Balacuit, DO, will be located in the building, and a drive-through pharmacy also is planned.

“The Bloomsdale Women’s Health and Primary Care Center will be the most comprehensive women’s diagnostics and health care center in our region,” said CEO Tom Keim, SGCMH CEO. “This facility will dramatically expand the scope of our services for women and become a premiere location for primary and specialty care.”

The women’s health center design will be woman-friendly with a spa-like look and feel. The facility will include obstetrics, gynecology, surgical services, digital mammography, ultrasound, bone density, stereotactic breast biopsy and exam rooms; large consultation and education rooms; and a massage area.

An ambulatory surgery center with two operating rooms, eight private rooms for surgery patients, business and meeting space, and waiting rooms will be located on the second floor, directly above the women’s center.
