Spring is in the air and on the schedule as well. The annual city-wide spring cleanup is planned for the week of April 9.
Public Works Director Larry Lacy has said crews will be out the second week of April making the rounds of town collecting large debris and items not usually hauled away by regular trash services.
Crews will begin at 7:30 a.m. and work in a different ward each day. They will visit Ward 1 on April 9, Ward II on April 10, Ward III on April 11, and Ward IV on April 12.
“Please have rubbish in containers at the curb or in the alley. We will not take anything your trash service takes, i.e. trash bags, cardboard boxes, or items in garbage cans,” Lacy said.
“No leaves, limbs, brush, lumber, shingles, siding or construction waste products will be picked up. We will not take anything larger than two men can handle.”
Appliances will be taken but must have compressors removed.
If the crews cannot finish a ward in a scheduled day they will return the following day. There is not a planned “call back” day this year.
Tires may be taken to the street department at 401 East Liberty on April 13 for a fee of $2 per tire, or $3 if the tire is mounted on a wheel. The city will not accept tires in excess of 16 inches.
