The Fredericktown High School Academic Team captured the district title at the MSHSAA District Scholar Bowl Tournament Saturday, April 14.
Layne Peppers place 2nd and Gabe Coonce place 4th in Missouri Class 3 Districts. Chris Hanner, Chase Porter, Trevor Singleton, and Erin Wriedt made up the remainder of the team.
The team had a slow start losing to West County 300-200 in the first match. FHS gained momentum as the day progressed beating (Park Hills) Central 300-210 and Ste. Genevieve 310-280. The semi-final match, between second-ranked Fredericktown and third-ranked Potosi, resulted in a 290-190 victory for FHS.
The Championship was a rematch between Fredericktown and Ste. Genevieve. Ste. Genevieve, ranked fourth, upset top-ranked West County in the semi-final round. Fredericktown won the championship, 290-220.
The Fredericktown Academic team, whose record is 19-8, will advance to state sectionals at 5 p.m., today, (April 25) at Fredericktown High School. The team will be competing against (Cape) Notre Dame.
