Dragons edge Warriors 4-3 in rivalry game
STE. GENEVIEVE — Andrew Suiter drove in two runs with a triple and single, and Bryn Huck pitched six strong innings as Ste. Genevieve claimed a narrow 4-3 victory over neighboring Valle Catholic on Thursday.
Adam Schwent doubled and Broc Kreitler added a RBI single during a three-run first inning against Valle starter Tyler Litterest. The Dragons (8-7) made it 4-0 when Suiter plugged the right-center gap in the second.
The Warriors (12-3) responded when senior Alex Rollhaus cleared the bases on a three-run double in the third, but Huck retired 10 of his next 11 batters faced while striking out three to preserve the lead.
Dustin Raney allowed singles to Evan Lauer and Alec Greminger in the Valle seventh, but nailed down the save with a strikeout.
Nick Vaeth and Schwent were each 1-for-2 with a walk, and Dan Lurk singled for Ste. Genevieve.
Rollhaus finished 2-for-3 and mowed down 10 consecutive batters after relieving on the mound. A defensive gem from freshman infielder Andrew Basler prevented a lead-off hit in the fifth inning.
Lauer went 2-for-2 plus a walk and Greminger had two infield hits for the Warriors, whose four-game win streak was snapped.
