BONNE TERRE — Dr. Don “Doc” Swindle, 86 of Bonne Terre, and also known as “Skippy” the clown, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at Missouri Baptist Hospital. He was born July 15, 1925 in Tiptonville, TN. Doc had several accomplishments in his lifetime. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy by serving as a Naval Medic in WWII on an LST 1078. He was a member of the VFW Post 6137 in St. Louis, ECMO Shriner’s Club, Craftsman Masonic Lodge #717 of St. Louis, International Shrine Clown Association, Mineral Area Elks Lodge, Farmington American Legion, Sword of Bunker Hill No. 73. Doc was a member of the Desloge First Baptist Church where he used his gift of teaching to lead an Adult Sunday School class for many years. His humanitarian nature initiated a 63 year long passion for people in need of Chiropractic wellness and he owned and operated his own practice in St. Louis as well as Bonne Terre. His love for the soil was evident by his blossoming gardens and beautiful landscape.
He is preceded in death by parents, Don and Olie Ruth (Lane) Sutton Swindle Sr.; infant daughter, Connie Lee Swindle; four brothers and three sisters.
Doc is survived by wife, Doris (Gray) Swindle; children, Judy (David) Sherrill of Bonne Terre, Don Michael (Paulette) Swindle of O’Fallon, Tammie (James) Deschler of St. Louis; grandchildren, Matthew (Sharon) Sherrill and Andrew Sherrill of Bonne Terre, Paul (Sara) Sherrill of Park Hills, Michelle (Brian) Schnarre of O’Fallon, Jamie (Joseph) Haberberger of St. Louis, and Clay (Laura) Deschler of Afton, MO.; and seven Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday April 29, 2012 at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday April 30, 2012 at the C.Z. Boyer Chapel with Rev. Kennard Mayfield. Due to family allergies, the family asks for memorials in lieu of flowers. Memorials can be made to the Shriners Hospital Burn Unit.
