MAC Cardinals win two over Maple Woods
KANSAS CITY — The Mineral Area College Cardinals are finishing off their regular season this weekend with make-ups of two doubleheaders at the Maple Woods Monarchs. The Cardinals claimed the first two on Friday by scores of 5-2 and 11-6.
Jeff King improved his pitching record to 10-2 with a four-hit effort in game one. King utilized his team’s defense to gain the win with only one strike-out.
Mineral Area spotted King to an early four-run lead with two runs in both the second and third innings. Tyler Bunge hit a two-run home run and Dylan Mays hit a solo shot. Tanner Glore legged out a triple and Clayton Gibbons added a double to MAC’s offensive attack.
The Cardinals produced 11 hits in game two highlighted by Cody Garlington’s two triples. The Cardinals tied the game with three runs in the sixth inning, forcing the two teams to play an extra inning as both were scoreless in the seventh. A six-run eighth by the Cardinals clamped the lid down shut on the Monarchs.
Scott Jones picked up the win in relief.
Mineral Area (27-21) will conclude the four-game set starting at noon today.
