Children’s Mental Health Week

Mayor Stuart “Mit” Landrum signed and presented a proclamation on May 4 designating May 6-12 as Children’s Mental Health Week in Farmington.

In Missouri it is estimated that 103,653 children and youth suffer a serious mental disorder, yet very few receive the treatment they need.

While the number of Missouri parents seeking screening and treatment for a child is steadily increasing, just 16,458 children and youth received services from the Missouri Department of Mental Health in 2008.

Shown with Landrum are members of NAMI Missouri, a private non-profit organization dedicating to improving the quality of life and recovery for children and adults with mental illness and their families.
