Suspect in custody after standoff
Gary W. Weekley, 40, of Fredericktown was arrested and charged for assault on a law enforcement officer, a class C felony, after a standoff at a residence in Madison County.
According to an incident report, Weekley pointed a rifle at a deputy who was dispatched to the scene about 7:30 p.m. May 5.
The deputy drew his service weapon and Weekley withdrew, barricading himself in the home. No shots were fired.
The deputy called for assistance and was supported by Sheriff David Lewis, units from Fredericktown Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Lewis reportedly tried to talk to the suspect several times. Weekley eventually surrendered early Sunday morning and was taken into custody by the sheriff without further incident.
Weekley is in the Madison County Jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond. A trial date has not been set.
