Brooks faces child molestation charges

A Leadwood man has been charged with child molestation.

Michael L. Brooks, 22, of Leadwood, has been charged with two Class B felonies of child molestation. His bond was set at $100,000.

According to court records, a 3-year-old child told DFS that Brooks hurt her butt with his private part.

When questioned, Brooks told police that the child grabbed him by the genitals and he told her that was a “no no.” He said he rubbed his genitals against her for a minute and told her never to let anyone do this to her. He admitted there was slight penetration.

“This was a teaching moment that’s it,” he said, adding that he had been “touched” as a child.

He said he did not threaten her not to tell anyone. He said he felt really bad after he did it.

If convicted, he could be sentenced up to 15 years on each charge.
