MAC outfielder Hanquist named All-American
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Consistency was difficult for the Mineral Area College softball team to establish in a disappointing 23-33 season, but there was one glaring exception to that rule.
Sophomore center fielder Emily Hanquist emerged as a dangerous power hitter for the Lady Cardinals, and was named to the NJCAA Division II All-American Second Team on Thursday.
The native of Perryville, Mo. secured a single-season team record with 15 home runs, and became the third MAC player in four years recognized with the superior distinction.
Hanquist finished the season with a .380 batting average. Her 54 RBI, 46 runs scored, 71 hits, 16 doubles and 12 stolen bases were all team highs.
She produced a pair of multi-home run games in March against Division I opponents Three Rivers and St. Charles, and tallied five RBI in two separate contests.
Hanquist has signed to continue her collegiate career at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.
