Fishing derby June 9

Get a line and a pole and meet down by the Bilderback pond in Potosi City Park for the annual Kids Fishing Derby. The event is free and prizes will be given.

The fishing begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts until 10:30 a.m. Register at 8 a.m.

Prizes will be given after the derby for three age groups — 5 to 7, 8 to 11 and 12 to 15 — for highest combined weight of three biggest fish caught by any one angler and best in casting.

No fishing licenses will be required that day and sponsors will be on hand to help teach children to fish, so even if you don’t know how to fish, bring your child out anyway for a fun day.

You are encouraged to bring your own fishing pole, but even if you cannot, one will be provided. Fishing bait, hot dogs and soft drinks will also be provided free of charge.

The event is sponsored by the US Forest Service, Missouri Department of Conservation and Potosi, as well as many local businesses and organizations.

Questions may be addressed to Scott Pierce with the US Forest Service in Potosi at 573-438-5427.
