Summer concert series begins June 8

PARK HILLS — The Park Hills Parks and Recreation Department will bring back its annual summer concert series for the 13th year in a row.

Concerts begin June 8 and nearly all are on Fridays. All concerts will be at Columbia Park except the July 4 concert, which will take place at the Park Hills Sports Complex and is on a Wednesday.

A recorded message regarding the respective concert will be available at 573-431-0478 in the event of rain.

The June 8 concert features Canyon, a popular country and southern rock band. The concert runs from 7 to 9 p.m. and is sponsored by the Park Hills – Leadington Chamber of Commerce.

The Punches Family will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. June 22. The award-winning group has been singing together for five years and plays bluegrass gospel music that appeals to a wide variety of audiences. The family was nominated for Contemporary Group of the Year in 2009 and Gospel Band of the Year in 2010. The concert is sponsored by Missouri Natural Gas Company.

The Fourth of July concert will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Sports Complex before the annual fireworks show. Jackson Brothers Band will play classic rock and blues. The event, including the fireworks display, is sponsored by the city of Park Hills.

James and Truesdell with Tools of the Trade will perform easy listening tunes from 7 to 9 p.m. July 13. The five-piece band plays music from the 1960s to the present, including the songs of groups such as James Taylor, the Eagles and Roy Orbison. The concert is sponsored by the Daily Journal.

On July 27, Hired Hands will play country and rock and roll from 7 to 9 p.m. The four-member honky tonk band’s performance is sponsored by Ken’s Cards and Coins.

Instead of a concert on Aug. 3, the city will sponsor a back-to-school swim party from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Park Hills pool in Columbia Park. Admission will be free and a deejay will provide music.

The final concert will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 17. The Berry Brothers and The Redemptions each will perform southern gospel music.
