Bonne Terre has plans to make over pool

BONNE TERRE- The Bonne Terre pool got off to a slow start this season but attendance was very good Monday.

Pool Manager Beth Adams said Monday was very busy with temperatures in the 90s. The pool season started off fairly cool and rainy.

The Bonne Terre pool is open noon to 5 p.m. daily, weather permitting. If attendance drops below 10, the pool may close early.

Admission is still $1.

Jeanette Lewis swam with her nephew, 2-year-old Brayton Frank on Monday afternoon. She likes going to the pool because it’s cheap and it’s fun.

Key’reiona Robinson, 10, had fun doing handstands in the water.

Makayla, 5, Savanna, 7, and Nicholas Gerren, 10, swam with their cousin Georgia Pratt, 3. Makayla and Georgia played in the kiddie pool with their mothers while Savanna and Nicholas had fun going down the slide. They also like that the pool only costs $1.

Nicholas was disappointed the diving board was broken but Adams said they are getting a new diving board.

There are also plans to paint the kiddie pool to make it more kid-friendly and add benches for parents.

The entire pool building itself is in the midst of a make-over. They have already started painting.

Adams said they are looking to hire more lifeguards. Those who are interested can pick up an application at the pool or city hall.

Daycares are welcome at the pool and are offered special rates.

Pool parties are available from 6 to 8 p.m., or 8 to 10 p.m. on weekdays or 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturdays. The cost is $50 for two hours or $100 for four hours.

Women’s water aerobics will be held 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays for $2 per person.
