Potosi man injured when van hits tree

A Potosi man received minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident that took place at 3:05 p.m. Thursday on Missouri Route C, east of Midgett Road in Washington County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the accident occurred when an eastbound 2002 Ford Windstar driven by Gary R. Wynkoop, 68, was traveling on Route C when, in an attempt to avoid an oncoming vehicle, the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Trooper B.M. Beard said Wynkoop, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was taken by Iron County Ambulance to Washington County Hospital in Potosi where he was treated for minor injuries.

The vehicle received moderate damage in the accident and was removed from the scene by private conveyance.
