Moses Austin Heritage festival opens

Fresh bread from the Four a Pain and music will be filling up the air this weekend in Potosi when the Moses Austin Heritage festival opens for its 23rd time.

The festival started Friday night, but the parade is at 10 a.m. Saturday following the opening ceremonies at the County Courthouse.

Those who want to be in the parade join at the line-up area on Casey Farm Road on the east end of town by 9:30 a.m. The theme is “Celebrating Life. Board Games!”

 There will be lots of activities all day long including games, food, concerts, tours, demonstrations, crafts and more.

Saturday’s activities begin with a 5K run at 8 a.m. beginning on Lead street in front of the old High School.

At 11 a.m. or so, Unico Bank is sponsoring the Little Mr. and Mrs. Moses Austin.

At noon Dustin Coleman performs and the Boy Scouts Duck Race takes place on Breton Creek.

Meanwhile at 1:30 p.m. Master Magician DJ Edwards performs.

Various musicians will be performing beginning at 2:30 p.m., including Dustin Coleman and Emily Turnbough at 3 p.m.

The Wood block Car Derby Race is at 3 p.m. at the County Courthouse Lobby and square dancing begins at 6 p.m.

There will be another rodeo at the saddle club at 7 p.m. and at dark, a fireworks display, visible from the festival grounds is planned.

Moore Funeral Home has a tractor show at 11 a.m. Saturday and registration for the kiddie tractor pull starts at 1 p.m.
