Fredericktown man arrested on weapons charges

Melvin V. Nonn, 40, of Fredericktown is charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use by intoxicated person, both class D felonies, and assault on law enforcement, a class C felony.

According to a probable cause statement, Central Dispatch received a report of a male subject standing in the yard with a firearm and yelling at a female. When officers arrived witnesses reported the suspect was in his house playing the guitar.

Officers reported that as they approached the residence they could hear a guitar. They knocked on the door and identified themselves as police officers. The suspect reportedly quit playing, walked down the hall to move the gun to a different location, then came back to the living room and started playing again.

Officers eventually subdued the suspect and transported him to Madison Medical Center where tests showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Nonn is in custody on a $30,000 bond. A trial date has not been set.
