July 4 events planned locally

Several exciting July 4 events are scheduled in Madison County this year.

In Fredericktown, July 4 events will begin at 4 p.m., in Azalea Park. The festivities will kick off with champion anvil shooter Gay Wilkinson launching an anvil into the air. This will be immediately followed by the singing of the national anthem. Starting at 4:30, the public will be invited to play anvil bingo.

The Big River Volunteers Missouri State Guard will be on hand with a full civil war encampment with skirmishes and black powder shoots happening sporadically throughout the evening.

There will be several organizations with booths set up where they will be playing games and painting faces, as well as a petting zoo. The Madison County Chamber of Commerce will be selling armbands for $3 which will give guests unlimited rides on a large waterslide.

A dunking booth will feature Fredericktown Mayor Kelly Korokis and other members of the community throughout the night. There will also be craft and food vendors from around the area.

Fireworks will begin at dark. The event is being organized by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and platinum sponsors, the City of Fredericktown, Barefoot Village, Cap America and Versa Tech.

Vance Vineyards and Winery will host an Independence Day Celebration at 7 p.m., Friday, July 6.

Live music will be provided by Johnny Fever at 7 p.m. There will also be a BBQ and vendors. The fireworks will begin at dark.

Higdon Christian Church is holding a “Fire and Ice” event at 7:30 p.m. July 4.

The event will feature fireworks and homemade ice cream.
