First Coffee With A Doc a success

Coffee and conversation with a doctor was the order of business as Parkland Health Center kicked off their monthly Coffee With a Doc series at Bauhaus Kaffee on June 15.

Dr. Kevin Boatright gave a presentation on living well with allergies, and then asked if there were questions.  The answer was “Yes!”  Questions filled the next hour of the event.  Attendees of the free event had the opportunity to ask questions of Dr. Boatright, and even a chance to speak one on one with him after the formal presentation.

“I never expected to actually get to ask the doctor a question,” said one of the attendees.  “I never thought a doctor would actually do this for free.”

“Dr. Boatright did an outstanding job,” said Parkland Health Center’s Medical Staff Director, Jack Marler.  “He is so knowledgeable and so easy to talk to.  We appreciate that he was willing to take time out of his schedule to reach out to the public at this event.”

Plans are to continue to offer Coffee With A Doc on the third Friday of each month at Bauhaus Kaffee, as a service to the community.  “We are excited to have the opportunity to help people in our region become engaged and proactive in their health care,” said Tom Karl, president of Parkland Health Center.  “That’s really what this series of events is about, and part of the mission of our hospital.”

The next Coffee with a Doc is scheduled for Friday, July 20, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at Bauhaus Kaffee. July’s event will feature Dr. John Griffin.  Dr. Griffin is a board certified internal medicine physician currently in private practice in Farmington.  He has a special interest in prevention and early control of cardiovascular disease and risk factors.  Dr. Griffin will do a brief presentation on the topic of preventing cardiovascular disease, and then take questions from attendees.  Coffee and conversation with the physician are compliments of Parkland Health Center.
