Bonne Terre Hospital video receives prestigious Telly Award
Farmington, MO — A video about Bonne Terre Hospital’s 100 year history in the community has been awarded a 2012 Telly Award and has received the silver level, the highest award for this annual competition. Bonne Terre Hospital, which was opened to the public in 1911, is a predecessor to Parkland Health Center.
The video, which was produced by BJC Media Services in conjunction with staff at Parkland Health Center and the BJC communications and marketing team, won in the Film/Video division under the category of History/Biography. Other winners in this category included The Walt Disney Company, Kaleidoscope Pictures and New York Life Insurance Company. This year marks the 33rd year for the Telly Awards.
The 14-minute video tells the history of Bonne Terre Hospital during its early years as an on-site infirmary for St. Joseph Lead Company. It follows the story through its years as the only hospital in the region, and then its merger in 1991 with Farmington Community Hospital to form Parkland Health Center, all the way to today as a full service hospital that is part of BJC HealthCare. Karen Stewart, director of corporate communications and marketing for BJC HealthCare, was very involved in the Bonne Terre Hospital 100th anniversary materials, including the award-winning video. In reflecting on the award, Stewart stated, “In doing this video, it became very clear to me how people from the community were invested in this hospital. Bonne Terre Hospital was a big part of their lives and was clearly a very important part of the community. We were very happy to capture these remembrances on the video and website, and very pleased that it won this award. We were in with rare companions, and our video stood up with the big names to win this highest award.”
Tracie McClain, manager of BJC Media Services, said, “Winning a Telly Award is truly an honor that BJC Media Services and Parkland Health Center should be proud of. Both teams put a tremendous amount of work into producing a quality video for the 100th anniversary and being recognized for that effort is rewarding. However, we wouldn’t have an award-winning video without interesting subjects. The community members and health care workers who helped Bonne Terre Hospital get started and then thrive should also be proud of creating such a legacy that lives on through this excellent video.”
