MAC suspends EPA Superfund Training Project

PARK HILLS — The Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Training Project offered through Mineral Area College has been put on hold until Spring 2013.

Since September 2011, MAC has trained 96 area residents in the two-week lead remediation program which included HAZWOPER 40 certification. The college received the grant in 2011 to train lead remediation workers at no cost to participants.

“The decision to temporarily suspend the program was made because the projected demand for local workers has been met,” said Workforce Development Director and Grant Project Manager Bev Hickam.  “If additional EPA contracts are awarded after Spring 2013, the college may elect to revive the program. In the meantime, the college will continue to offer the HAZWOPER 40 certification and related courses to area businesses or contractors who have a need.”

Companies interested in arranging training may contact Hickam at (573) 518-2182.
