George E. Cooper, Sr.

MONTROSE, Mo. — George E. Cooper, Sr. age 77 of Montrose, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at Bates County Memorial Hospital, Bulter, Mo. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at the First Baptist Church, Clinton, Mo.

George was born October 26, 1934, in French Village, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. George worked as a construction superintendant.He was a 60 year member of the Metal Traders and Boilermakers of East St. Louis. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bernice (Shemoski) Cooper; sister, Helen Jo Nishwitz; brother, Leonard James Cooper, Sr.; and nephew, Leonard James Cooper, Jr.

Among survivors includes his wife, Norna of the home; two sons, George E. Cooper, Jr. of Warrensburg, Mo. and Harry Cooper of Kirksville, Mo.; two daughters, Penny Grechus of Farmington, and Julie Smith of Montrose, Mo.; five sisters, Lavelle King, Patricia Barnett, Jacquele Hazzard, Gail Fetterer, and Jeanette Golden; as well as 15 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higgiinsville, Mo. at 3:00 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
